Becoming a Black Belt at AKKA Karate USA

At AKKA we consider our school a Black Belt academy. This means that our goal is for each of our students to earn the rank of Black Belt.

How would a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate look on your child’s college application under extracurricular activities? How about on a job application or your resume? How would you feel to have achieved the highest rank in martial arts? Think about it...as you have begun your search for a martial arts school the idea of Black Belt has probably crossed your mind. But what does becming a Black Belt mean? What does it take to get one and do you have what it takes?
AKKA Karate USA, has been teaching martial arts in Independence for over 25 years. We have been working with students from 4 to 40+ helping them achieve the goal of Black Belt. (our oldest student is actually 72 years old and started when he was 60 and is currently a 4th degree Black Belt!) Well, what is all this talk about Black Belt? Let me begin by telling you what a Black Belt is not...

-A Black Belt is not about being able to go around bragging about how tough you are.
-A Black Belt is not a "super hero" who can defend themselves against EVERY threat
-A Black Belt is not a registered lethal weapon.

Now that we have a few of the myths and misconceptions out of the way...let me tell you what a Black Belt at AKKA is all about, Honesty, Courtesy, Respect, Discipline, Loyalty, Courage, Integrity, Effort, Perseverance. In other words, becoming a Black Belt is not about getting a piece of black cloth to wear around your waist. It is about how you work to improve yourself in the process of training.

Look at it this way, a Black Belt is someone who strives for constant and never ending improvement in their martial arts training as well as in their everyday life. Black Belts are not perfect. They are people who realize within their capacity to learn that their education is never ending. They are willing to put everything they have into whatever they do until they achieve their goal. There are Black Belts all around us. They may or may not be martial artists but you know who they are. Those people you like being around because there is something about them that you want more of. They have a charisma or way of being in every part of their life that makes you want to be like them. Most Black Belts in martial arts schools were already black belts inside themselves when they began their training...it just took some time to earn the actual belt in their respective art. So, what I am saying is the Black Belt is a testament to what is inside the person. Funny thing is they may not have even known what was inside of them when they first walked in the door. But as they practice and train they learn to persevere despite challenges and they never give up until they achieve their goal. In the martial arts a Black Belt is a White Belt who never quits.

Do you know how to sharpen a sword? Scrape it with a stone.

How is gold purified? By fire.

How do we improve ourselves? By overcoming challenges.

So, now let me again ask the question...
Do you have what it takes to get a Black Belt?

Well, do you? Does your child? (BTW the answer to the question is YES!) Are you willing to help yourself or your child strive to constantly improve physically, mentally, and spiritually? Are you willing do to whatever it takes to achieve your goals because you know it can be done? If you are the least bit interested then I would like to offer you an opportunity to find out.
