Pre Skill Program

Martial arts is good, clean fun for kids...and a great way to give them a head start in life. At AKKA Karate USA our students learn the positive benefits of Self-discipline and Self confidence, develop coordination and increase strength and flexibility. Because a structure of Respect is built into the Martial Arts, children develop the ability to listen, learn and achieve within a highly regulated and safe environment. This proves to be an excellent reinforcement of study techniques for school.

Courtesy, Honesty, Respect, Discipline, Loyalty and Courage are the motivating values of our school and are the expected characteristics of all of our students. Our Junior students spend time in each class focusing on these values. We discuss how to apply these values not only in Karate but also at home, school and other areas of their lives.

Our Kenpo Kids Program is designed for students ages 4-6. The Program works more on values, goal setting, & skill development. The age the student begins determines how many levels they will complete in the program. All students begin at Level 1 and continue until acceptable proficiency is shown to advance into the regular Junior Program.

AKKA Karate USA's Kenpo Kids Program strives for the following:

  •  Teaching attention skills so our students become better listeners.

  •  Developing coordination so our students become better athletes.

  •  Teaching our students how to show courtesy and respect.

  •  Showing our students cooperation and trust • Teaching basic martial arts skills

LEVEL 1

All Kenpo Kids begin here. Each class students receive a black stripe on their belt to show that they have attended class. Every eighth class students receive their next belt as a symbol of their good attendance.  This level lasts for about 8 months or so at which time the student may move to Level 2. At this level we are focusing on FUNdamental basic karate skills.

LEVEL 2

Level 2 is for students who have achieved Kenpo Kids Black Stripe Belt. The student keeps the Kenpo Kids Black Stripe Belt and works to earn a colored stripe every month. To stripe students imitate a section of our Gold Belt Chart with an instructor. At this level we are focusing on imitation of motion as a first step toward working on our Junior Gold Belt. Once all 8 colored stripes have been earned, depending on age, student can advance to our regular Junior class to begin working on  Jr. Gold.

AKKA Karate USA Values for Life.

Each month, in class, we focus on a particular value (such as Honesty, Courtesy, Respect or Discipline). Students receive a stripe on their belts with the name of that month's particular value. This way every time they put on their belt they see and can be thinking about the value of the month. Each week we do a circle time talk about the monthly value discussing what it is, how to practice it and why. Our goal is to educate and encode these traditional values in our students to help shape the character of our next generation.

S.T.A.R. at AKKA Karate USA

AKKA Karate USA has an exciting and innovative program for your children in the area of Personal Responsibility Education. The program is called S.T.A.R... (Success Through Accepting Responsibility or Stop, Think, Act and Review). S.T.A.R was created by the Jefferson Center for Character Education: a non-profit, nonsectarian organization founded in 1963 and located in Pasadena, California. The purpose was to address the need for character education in both public and private schools by the teaching of common values and ideals that are universal in societies around the world. These values include: Honesty, Courtesy, Respect, Discipline, Loyalty and Courage. The mission of AKKA Karate USA is to instill these very values in our students through the Martial Arts. We believe this to be an ongoing process; not something to be achieved after a month or a year, but rather over a lifetime of education and effort. We have chosen S.T.A.R. because it is the perfect compliment to our philosophy. S.T.A.R. will provide an ongoing, systematic method of teaching the core values upon which our program is based.

S.T.A.R. is designed to teach students to: *Accept the consequences of their actions *Use the S.T.A.R. Stop, Think, Act, Review decision-making model to solve problems and resolve conflicts. *Develop and improve self-confidence, self-esteem and positive attitudes. *Set and achieve realistic goals. *Accept that attendance at class, punctuality and reliability are part of being personally responsible.

The way S.T.A.R. works is this: each month there is a specific theme focusing on a particular value and emphasizing the student’s responsibility to incorporate that value into their daily activities. Along with the Theme of the Month is an activity, which the student is required to do, and which reinforces the value expressed by the theme.

Each month your child will receive the S.T.A.R. Home School Approval Form, which outlines that months theme and activity and the 5 requirements to qualify for S.T.A.R. Upon completion of the activity and your verification, by signature, that the qualifications have been met your child will receive a S.T.A.R. Patch of Achievement that can be worn on the right sleeve of their uniform. As S.T.A.R. Patches are earned they will form a band around the right sleeve, one band for 9 month cycle of the program.

In order to facilitate responsibility, no late forms are accepted or lost ones replaced. AKKA wants nothing but the best for you and your children and we think S.T.A.R. will help lead them on their QUEST TO BE THEIR BEST..ASA!!!
